Accutech Engineering Inc partnered with Kudlik Construction Limited and Parkin Architects to form a Design Build Team (DBT) to complete the design and construction of the New Peter Pitseolak High School in Cape Dorset, Nunavut. The Peter Pitseolak High School is a 3137m2 facility designed to replace the original Peter Pitseolak School was tragically destroyed by arson in late 2015. The DBT instituted an iterative delivery model that focused on coordination and phasing in order to complete design and construction activities concurrently. By implementing this system, the DBT was successful in delivering the completed Peter Pitseolak School 1 full year ahead of schedule. The Peter Pitseolak High School features a welcoming design that is intended to encourage participation in Education and Community Activities. The building orientation and layout focuses on exposing users to the natural views and lighting that are present on the site and provides a continuous connection to the land. The Peter Pitseolak School contains standard classrooms, a science room, CTS Home Studies, CTS Garage, CTS Traditional Room, gymnasium, fitness room, a full-service daycare, and many other state-of-the art teaching spaces to promote Education in Cape Dorset. All classrooms are equipped with sound-field equipment, interactive whiteboards, and customized IT installations that enable students to learn using the latest technology.
