Accutech Engineering Inc. was retained by the Government of Nunavut to provide engineering services and contract administration services related to the implementation of improvements to the ice making system in the Pangnirtung Community Arena.
The Pangnirtung Community Arena facility was a sand floor arena that relied on nature alone to provide cooling to the ice service. Accutech’s zero-energy ice plant system was designed to be implemented into the existing facility to magnify the natural cooling provided by the environment. This was completed by the design and installation of a passive thermosyphon system, new concrete slab, excavation of existing granular, and implementation of an automated humidity regulation system.
The scope of work that was carried out was an implementation of the enhanced ice making systems recommended by Accutech Engineering Inc. Previous projects of this nature were undertaken by Accutech in Arviat, Coral Harbour, Igloolik, Sanikiluaq and Whale Cove, Nunavut.
