Accutech Engineering Inc. was retained by the Government of Nunavut to provide multi-disciplinary engineering, architectural, and construction management services to renovate the Baffin Regional Hospital located in Iqaluit, Nunavut. This project consisted of a full renovation of the existing 4,000m2 facility plus the erection of 356m2 of new additions and program area. The modernization of the Baffin Regional Hospital (BRH) was a challenging and complex design task. Accutech’s scope of work included the design of a new outpatient clinic, secure pharmacy area, biomedical laboratory, cafeteria, commercial kitchen, laundry services, medical gas storage/bottling, and upgraded mechanical and electrical plant. The delivery of the project required a phased approach to keep certain portions of the existing facilities operational during construction. Accutech successfully implemented a phased construction approach into the design and delivery of this project to meet the Client requirements. After the design was completed, Accutech experienced unanticipated obstacles in the delivery of the construction administration for the BRH facility. The original General Contractor defaulted one-year into the construction of the project and was re-tendered by the Surety Agency. Accutech provided expert support and representation to the Client throughout this process and was able to successfully deliver this complex project.
