Accutech Engineering Inc. was retained by the Government of Nunavut to complete design and construction administration services for the development of a new High School in Igloolik, Nunavut. The Amarjuaq High School is a 3,331m2 secondary school is designed to accommodate 230 High School students. The design of the Amarjuaq School highlights the skills and history of the people of Igloolik and provides a nurturing environment for the delivery of Education in the Hamlet. The building features programming spaces for CTS Trades, CTS Garage, jewellery making, science, physical education, standard classrooms, student support rooms, and daycare delivery. The building features a stand-alone mechanical and electrical plant to isolate the main building infrastructure from the school itself. The mechanical building houses the fire protection water, domestic water, boiler plant, main electrical distribution, and the fire pump infrastructure. The two buildings are connected via a buried utilidor system. The Amarjuaq High School also features a stand-alone pre-fabricated, packaged generator unit that is placed on the site adjacent to the mechanical building.
